Intermedias Review is an independent non-profit magazine with no corporate affiliation. The publication is based on reviews of media, art and culture.

Intermedias Review invites visual artists, film and video artists and writers of literary non-fiction, media and cultural reviews, to publish in the magazine.

Our mandate is to review the convergence of media and culture, to release from traditional labels such as visual art or literature and thereby create a different lens to examine a new field—intermediality, which questions existing forms through the encounter of various media (radio, television, film, literature, painting, music, theatre) within one medium.

Intermediality conveys a media crisis that a single medium is no longer able to express. It evokes tensional differences between media and in this way a third discourse is created.

It can be difficult—in traditional media and art labeling—to grasp this new format and the implications of interconnectedness. To understand it we need to create a dialogue that spirals between these areas—cinema, video, theatre and visual art. Intermedias Review is poised to provide such a dialogue. As Marshall McLuhan wrote in Understanding Media…. “The concentric with its endless intersection of planes is necessary for insight. In fact, it is the technique of insight, and as such is necessary for media study, since no medium has its meaning or existence alone, but only in constant interplay with other media.”

Intermedias Review publishes reviews in English and French without translation in recognition of the distinctiveness of both languages and cultures and the need to nourish the interaction/convergence between them.

Intermedias Review is based in Vancouver, British Columbia. As an electronic magazine we serve the global community from a local perspective. We review film festivals, art exhibits and performance with a focus as well on the artists: writers, dancers, filmmakers who contribute their essence, talent and energy.

Brief History
Intermedias Review, an art blog, was established in Vancouver in September 2006. In the next two years, the number of reviewers and frequency of coverage expanded considerably. In 2008 Intermedias Review received the ISSN 1918-4026, officially became a magazine, and a new website design was implemented to highlight the creation of two main areas: Screen Culture and Global Art.
